Ordering Texts
Time: 30-45 minutes
Level: Any
Materials: A reading text, either from a course book or an authentic source. Ones with linear stories or logical structures work best.
Objective: Students will be able to identify organizational conventions in a text.
Preparation: 5 minutes–select a text, make photocopies, cut the text into logical chunks (paragraphs or ideas); prepare one copy for every two students.
Directions: After any pre-reading warm-up for the text, put students in pairs and distribute one set of text strips to each pair. Allow students enough time to work together arrangining the text into the correct order. Circulate, monitor, and assist. Follow up by asigning pairs post-reading tasks.
