When I was a professor teaching teachers how to teach English as a Second Language, I developed an online course in which I made video lectures and lesson demonstrations. I got great feedback from students about how they felt they were in a "live" class. In another class, I had students videotape their lesson demonstrations and share them with the class. These demonstrations also became part of their e-portfolios that they could show perspective employees. We should also use other kinds of visuals in online learning. The more we can simulate face-to-face interaction in online learning, the better, because students learn many different ways, as shown in the concept of multiple intelligences, so students need multi-sensory input to learn content and multi-sensory ways to demonstrate that they have mastered content.
