A Word of the Day

Hello Wordsmiths,

Our word of the day is MONOPOLY (noun). This is defined as "Exclusive control by one group of the means of producing or selling a commodity or service." (The American Heritage Dictionary, page 811).

The first question one must ask when dealing with economic matters such as this is, "why does it matter?" It matters because of equal opportunity. By its very nature, a free-market system frowns upon monopolies because they do not allow for competition.
