ALL MY GRADE 8 & 9 STUDENTS PASSED THE ALGEBRA CORE REGENTS EXAM

All my grade 8 & 9 students (10 students) passed the Algebra Core Regents exam. Only one student had to retake it in August and she passed with an 83%. In June she scored 53%. My two Trigonometry students passed the Regents, but only 2 out 4 students passed the Geometry Regents exams.

Congrats !!

Sometimes it is hard for teachers/tutors to accept, but "The real test of teaching is not what you do as a teacher, but what your students do as a result of what you do." -- Howard Hendricks

You have achieved an important level in a system that has constrained resources (time, money, etc.) and low expectations.  With large class sizes, the philosophy is not to let students get too far ahead and not to let students get too far behind  -- just push them all toward the "mediocre middle."

It is difficult to break that paradigm, but we must.  Mediocre businesses don't succeed.  Minimum standards are just minimums.
I am glad that you saw the growth potential in that student who scored 53% in June when some teachers would have lost hope in her. Sometimes what parents fail to realize is that students perform differently based on their environment and level of practice. Under the right circumstances, all students are capable of not only learning but also meeting expectations. A good teacher can also speed up the process as you just demonstrated. Bravo!
