Relax and Read for FUN

Winter Break is over, but February Break is just around the corner.  Do you want to know a pain free way to improve your vocabulary and sharpen your brain cells?  The answer awaits you at your local library.  There are thousands upon thousands of books to choose from, and there is sure to be at least one book that whets your appetite for reading.  Books can introduce you to real people and places or gloriously imagined worlds.  Books can make you laugh and make you cry, and not just because a book report is looming over you.  Imagine how relaxing, invigorating, and satisfying it can be to read a book for FUN!
Here are some of my favorites, suitable for upper Elementary and Middle Grades:
Kindling, by Braden Bell
Ashes, by Kathryn Lasky
Freakling, by Lana Krumwiede
Schooled, by Gordon Korman
The Total Tragedy of a Girl Named Hamlet, by Erin Dionne
The Cay, by Theodore Taylor
The Wednesday Wars, by Gary D. Schmidt
Happy Reading!
