Words to Purge

Take a look at the following list of words:  is, are, was, were, be, being, been.  These words often make writing weak and confusing.  Want to create superior writing?  Get rid of them.  Now, that may sound crazy, as they stand among the most common words in the English language.  That's because they serve as hallmarks of common, average writing.  To make  your prose better than average, you should use them less frequently.

Cool!  I'm going to try it!  <---- so far, so good :)
Agreed. Additionally, many writers make the mistake of using the same
descriptive word or words too frequently througout any given passage.
Unless that word is somehow apart of the theme, one would be well
advised to integrate some creativity into their writing. Whip out that
dictionary and thesaurus, expand your vocabulary. There are many methods
a writer can use to spice up their pieces. Great tip, Richard.
I love this tip. My 10th grade AP English teacher would deduct 10 points every time he saw one of those words in our work; even if it was just a worksheet. Since then, I've been trying to write like I'm sixteen again. I wrote some of my best work in that class.
