My first blog post!
I just wanted to introduce myself and tell you a little more about my background.
As stated in my profile, I graduated from UC San Diego in December 2012 with a B.S. Human Biology and a B.A. Philosophy.
My hobbies include reading, working out, running, and Netflix.
A little bit about my tutoring experience:
I have been tutoring under the No Child Left Behind Act for the past year. I work with students varying from 1st grade up to 10th grade in either English or math. Many of the students I work with come from low-income backgrounds. They receive 17 hours of free tutoring to help them meet the California Learning Standards. The parents usually had a genuine concern about their child's education, but usually had very limited education. Since I had a limited amount of time with my students, I often ended my last session with a discussion with the parent on how they can continue to work with their child and where they might be able to find other resources. This work has been very rewarding for me and I love seeing the students slowly improve and build up their confidence.
Working within this particular demographic has enabled me to develop tons of patience and my own personal teaching style. Look out for my future post where I will be elaborating on my motivational and teaching techniques
