Comparing the human body with an automobile

If you want to help students with no background in biology or human anatomy and physiology, use an automobile to illustrate concepts such energy source, circulation, breathing and waste production. Simply put the car engine is the equivalent to the heart in a human being, the burning of gasoline is like respiration, the pumping of oil by the engine is like the transporting of oxygen and carbon dioxide in humans. The production of carbon monoxide by the engine is the equivalent of the waste products in the caecum in humans. The radiator acts as the thermostat just like the various hormones in our circulatory system.
