The Art of a Well Turned Phrase

I am sure the written word will never go out of style, mainly because it is not in style and it is not a trend. The written word is essential for our full expression as human beings. In the world of tweets and text messaging, the art of a well turned phrase is unforgettable.

The arrangement of words is a powerful phenomenon which can be used for good or evil. Who could ever forget the superlative Dr. Martin Luther King and his "I Have a Dream" speech....."And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!" This speech of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. remains the most powerful arrangement of words I have ever read. What words speak to your humanity? What poems, prose, songs or speeches have brought you to tears or have stopped you cold in your tracks or have brought you total peace and understanding? This is the power of the written word, write on.
