Algebra II concepts

An important concept for Algebra II student is to pay good attention to signs.

Always remember when performing addition on integers with minus signs: Add the numbers first, then put a minus sign before the result.

For example:

-33-44 is the same as -(33+44)= -77

When adding 2 number with opposite signs, then subtract the 2 integers and the result would have the sign of the largest integer.

-44+33= - 11

44+(-33)= + 11

Always remember these formulas:

square of sum

The well-known formula for squaring a sum of two numbers:

(a + b)2 = a2 + 2ab + b2

squaring the difference of two numbers

(a- b)2 = a2 - 2ab + b2
