The key with reading stories like Beowulf, The Lord of the Rings, and other novels that resort to the old-english tongue is to read a paragraph at a time. Once you do so, go over what you just read and begin deciphering the work in an "easy to understand" way. Books such as Beowulf tend to lavish scenes with detail and complicated, rarely used words to describe rather simple things! It builds up the scene and the grandeur of work and is one of the common literary components of an epic. Do they really need a whole page to describe how strong Beowulf is?!? Nonetheless, it is a very fun read and I think Ben will ace his test on it!

Congrats Ben on making an A on your Beowulf exam!
