Keeping Skills Sharp Over the Summer

Summer reading lists should not be seen as a chore. How do we get our children to turn off the TV and video games and get into a book? The answer is simpler than you may think. Make the book relevant and easy to relate to. Students often express disinterest in a book because they think it's old, outdated, and not relevant to who they are. Summer reading is so important and it is even more important that students don't take 8 weeks off and then cram to get all of their summer assignments done in the last 10 days before school starts.
