There is more than on way to do this.
The most powerful method is to find the pattern, and express it as a function
i.e. the first term is (2x1)*(2x2)
the 2nd term is (2x2)*(2x3)
so the pattern is (2xn)*(2x(n+1))
and the 20th term is (2x20)*(2x21)
1/12 + 1/8 = what?
let's start with
1/2 + 1/2 = what?
Take an orange, cut it in half. How many halves are there? Two halves!
How many oranges are there? One orange.
Think deeply on this and you will know, without a shadow of a doubt that
1/2 + 1/2...
To understand how this works you need to know two things
a) that x is just like another number
b) what = means
= means that what is on the left side of the equation is EQUAL to what is on the right side of the equation
So to be true to what EQUAL means, whatever you do to the left...
Solving this as written 9/6 = x*10, I'm going to use * to mean multiply.
I think the first time you see x it is mysterious. What is x? springs to mind. In this case x = 9/60 = 3/20.
What about getting from 9/6 = x*10 to x = 9/60, how do you get there.
