Hi Alli, it looks like part of the questions is missing. Typically when we are asked to solve an equation by factoring we start off with some polynomial such as one in the form ax^2 +bx +c and the goal of factoring is to break that into parts such as (x+d)(x+e) where e and d are factors of c whose sum is b.
We can also factor polynomials of other forms by grouping and other methods.
It looks like the equation you have is partially factored but you are missing a term in the first parentheses. (X +____)(x+7) =0
When you figure out what goes in the blank, you can set each set of parentheses to be 0. If either the sum in the first parentheses or the sum in the second parentheses is 0, the whole product will be 0 since 0 multiplied by anything is 0.
So: (x+___)=0 & (x+7)=0
Slove for x in both of these equations to find the zeros, and solve the equation.
