We will use the concentration equation for ideal solutions here: c1*v1 + c2*v2 = c *(v1+v2)

Given c1=.2, c2 =100% =1, v2=3L, c = 40% = .4

So .2*v1 + 1*3 = .4(v1+3)

.2v1 + 3 = .4v1 + 1.2

3-1.2 = .4v1 -.2v1 ( subtracting .2v1 and 1.2 on both sides)

1.8 = .2v1

v1 = 1.8/.2 = 9

So 9 L of 20% fruit juice must be used.
