Jimmy,

Dora runs 3/5 m in 3/20 hr

so in 1 hr she runs (3/5)/(3/20) miles

= (3/5)*(20/3) = 4 miles

Jimmy,

she can run 3/5m in 3/20h

Multiply the whole thing by 20. Remember multiplying both sides by equal number doesn't change the proportion.

So you now have "she can run 3*4 m in 3 h"

Now divide the whole thing by 3. The same principle applies dividing both sides by equal number doesn't change the proportion.

4 m in 1 h

she can run 4 m in one h.

I hope this helps

3/5 of a mile in 3/20 of an hour

how many 3/20 are in 1 hour ?

1/(3/20)=(20/3)=6 2/3

(6 2/3)*(3/5)=(20/3)*(3/5)

(20/3)(3/5) can be simplified to (4/1)(1/1)=4 miles, or...

(20/3)(3/5)=60/15=4 miles again, or...

3/20 of an hour is 9 minutes

60/9=6 6/9=6 2/3

(6 2/3)(3/5)=(20/3)(3/5)=4 miles again
