PEMDAS is a mnemonic device that helps us remember the order of operations when solving math problems.
Step 1: Parentheses
Step 2: Exponents
Step 3: Multiplication, Division (left to right)
Step 4: Addition, Subtraction (left to right)
Following the order of operations for the given problem:
2-1+6+5-1+2-3*0+79
Step 1: If any of the operations are grouped together with a pair of parentheses then you would solve for the operation within each pair of parentheses. No parentheses in the given problem here. Go to step 2.
Step 2: Exponents. No exponents in the given problem. Go to step 3.
Step 3: Multiplication and Division left to right. As you read from left to right and you encounter multiplication or division operations, solve those specific operations. It does not matter whether you encounter division first or multiplication first. It does matter that you solve from left to right.
In the given problem, -3 times 0 = 0.
2-1+6+5-1+2-3*0+79
2-1+6+5-1+2+0+79
2-1+6+5-1+2+79
2-1=1+6=7+5=12-1=11+2=13+79=92
The solution is 92.
