This problem contains four variables: one being how many dollars per hour as a tutor, how many dollars per hour he makes as a waiter, how many hours he worked as a tutor, and the number of of hours he worked as a waiter.

Now let x = amount of dollars he makes per hour as a tutor

Let y = the amount of dollars he makes as a waiter

Let t = number of hours he worked as a tutor

Let T = the total combined hours he worked both jobs in one month

Thus, T-t = the number of hours left he worked as a waiter.

Therefore, D = the total dollars Frank earned this month in which is:

D = x*t + y*(T-t)
