The way I would solve this problem is to set up a proportional equation. Remember, when doing so, you must have like items on both numerators and denominators regardless of what you are trying to calculate. There are other ways of doing this problem, however you will be using proportional equations throughout your education. aa

 

Therefore: 

204        96

17           x 


Notice that I placed both the number of hours on the numerator for each side of the equation. Also, note I have placed the number of hours on the denominators of both sides of the equation. Do you see that? Now, all you have to do is cross-multiply. 

17 (96) = 204 (x)    <-----We are going to solve for x, okay? 


1632 = 204 x          <-----Divide both sides of the equation by 204 to leave x by itself.
