A rectangular garden is 5 ft longer than it is wide. Its area is 5250 ft 2 . What are its dimensions?

 I would just like to know what is with and lenght, I've been trying to figure it out and still get it wrong.

w+5=length

w(w+5)=5250

w^2+5w-5250=0

this problem amounts to factoring 5250 as a product of prime factors

factor and rearrange the factors...

5250=2*3*5*5*5*7=(2*5*7)*(3*5*5)=70*75

length=75 feet

width=70 feet

70*75=5250

another little trick...

√5250=72.45688...

try 70 and 75, which we know works
