XYZ is a 45⁰-45⁰-90⁰ triangle with longer side equal to 6/√2. What is the area of the triangle?

18, 18/√2, 36 or 9/2

You should learn about special right triangles such as 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 triangles. In an isosceles right triangle the length of the hypotenuse is always the length of one of the sides times √2. If the hypotenuse is 6√2, then each side is 6. Knowing this you don't have to use the Pythagorean Theorem. This is very useful when taking a test because you save time in solving the problem.
