distance = rate x time
They leave at the same time and travel the same amount of time
until they meet.
distance 1 + distance 2 = 33
rate 1 x t + rate 2 x t = 33
12*t + 10t= 33
12t + 10t = 33
22t = 33
t = 33/22 = 3/2
They will meet after 3/2 hr = 1 and 1/2 hr = 1 hour 30 min = 1.5 hr
12*1.5 = 18 miles
10*1.5 = 15 miles
Total is 33 miles.
The two friends will be 18 and 15 miles away from their respective homes.
They will meet after 1 hour and 30 minutes of travel
d = rt
10t + 12t = 33
22t = 33
t = 1 1/3 = 1 hour, 20 mins
