A helpful hint could be to always plug in the number you think the variable (in this case t) is equal to back into the equation to see if it works out.

-2t-3t=32 t=8

-2(8)-3(8)=32

-16+-24=-40 not 32

To solve -2t-3t=32, add the t's together and divide 32 by -5 to get -6.4

Hope this helps!

Given -2t - 3t = 32 , then t = 8.

To answer your question, yes, this statement is false. You can prove this is in 2 ways, one is by solving for t in the given equation and the other is by substituting 8 for t in the equation:

1) -2t - 3t = 32

-5t = 32

t = 32/-5

t = -32/5

Thus, t ≠ 8

2) When t = 8,

-2t - 3t = -2(8) - 3(8)

= -16 - 24

= -40

Thus, when t=8, -2t - 3t = -40 ≠ 32.
