Hi! One way to answer this questions is to look at it this way:
2 3/4 mile = 2/5 hour

First I would convert 2 3/4 mile into an improper fraction
2 3/4 = 11/4     (4*2 +3)

If you want 1 hour, you would need to multiply the hour side of the equation by the reciprocal of the fraction.
2/5 * 5/2 = 10/10 = 1

What you do to one side of an equation, you need to do to the other, so multiply the miles by 5/2
11/4 * 5/2 = 55/8

Now you can convert the improper fraction back into a mixed number
55/8 = 6 7/8                (55/8 = 6 Remainder 7)  (6*8=48, 48+7=55)

So the runner could run 6 and 7/8 miles in 1 hour

I hope this helps
