asked • 05/02/17# Beachcomber #1, found only a few seashells along the shore. Beachcomber #2 found 7 more than Beachcomber #1. Beachcomber #3 was the best of all. He found 5 -

## 1 Expert Answer

B2 = B1 + 7

B3=B2+5

B1+B2+B3 = 82

B1+B1+7+(B1+7)+5 = 82

3B1 +12 = 82

3B1 = 82-12 = 70

B1 =70/3

B2 = B1+7 = 70/3 +7 = 91/3

B3 = B2+5 = 106/3

Best guess is the problem was not copied accurately as these involve parts of sea shells, when you'd expect whole numbers

Alternatively you could round the numbers off to the nearest integer to get

B1 = 23, B2 = 30 and B3 = 35 which does give exactly 7 more for B2 than B1 and exactly 5 more for B3 than B2

but that sums up to 88 not 82. Best answer really is partial sea shells

Beachbomber #2=x+7

Beachbomber #3=x+5+7

x+x+7+x+7+5=82

82-7-7-5=63

63:3=21
