How many cups of onion are needed to make 117 cups of salsa?

A salsa recipe uses green pepper, onion, and tomato in the extended ratio 1:3:9. How many cups of onion are needed to make 117 cups of salsa?

B)27
C)9
D)81
 
I think the answer is maybe B)27. But I'm not sure if that's correct or not.

Each 1:3:9 cup ratio makes 13 cups, right? So for 117 cups, you need 9 times whatever is represented in the ratio for each ingredient, bc 117 / 13 = 9. Which would mean 9:27:81. So you were right. (Doesn't surprise me!)
