Determine whether (-1, -8) is a solution for y=x-5.

Determine whether (-1, -8) is a solution for y=x-5.

T-Table

Hmmmm, Im not sure where to start, but I will try.

X= -1, * 5 = -5
X= 0 * 5=0
X= 1* 5 = 5
X=2*5= 10
X=3* 5= 15
 Is this correct?  thank you for your help!

Hi Abby;
y=x-5
(-1, -8)
Let's plug-in this coordinate...
-8=-1-5
-8 does NOT equal -6
This point is NOT a solution for this equation.

If you want to graph this, the equation is in the format of....
y=mx+b
m is the slope
b is the y-intercept, the value of y when x=0.
slope is 1.
y-intercept is (0,-5)
To graph, you begin with this point, (0,-5), and move up 1 unit while moving to the right 1 unit.  You will also move down 1 unit while moving to the left 1 unit.
