Occasionally, there will be proposed amendments to the state Constitution, referendums, or propositions on the voting ballot. In California, for example, there have been several high-profile propositions in recent years. You can easily research those on Google. These may be drafted by the state legislatures, or they may be the result of a petition drive by citizens through the collection of a certain number of signatures.
