Give an example of a mathematical function and identify its domain and range. How can you verify that it is a function?

 just need an example of a mathematical function and the domain and range of the function. how do you verify its a function?

f(x) is a function if for every input value "x" in the domain, there is
one, and only one, output value "y" in the range.
That is the purpose of the "Vertical Line Test" as mentioned by Kenneth S. 
A vertical line drawn through any point on the graph should touch the
graph in only one place.
