The diameter of a small gear is 16 cm. This is 2.5 cm more than 1/4 of the diameter of a larger gear. What is the diameter of the larger gear

In this problem we are trying to solve the diameter of the larger gear. I don't really understand the problem and I need help now!

Let,
     Diameter of the larger gear х
So the equation for the problem is,
1/4х + 2.5 = 16
1/4х = 16 - 2.5
1/4x = 13.5
x = 13.5*4
x = 54
Hence, the diameter of the larger gear is 54 cm

Restate the problem this way:
 
"16 cm .. is 2.5 cm more than 1/4 x"      [where x = diameter of the larger gear]
 16         =  2.5          +         (1/4)x
 
13.5 = (1/4)x              [subtract 2.5 from both sides]
54 = x                     [multiply both sides by 4]
 
The diameter of the large gear is 54 cm.
