655/ 25 = 26 1/5

655 = 26 * 25 + 5     / 26 quarters + 5 ,has to pay 26 quarters and a nickel

26 * 25 + 5 = 25 * 25 + 25 +5 = 25 *25 + 30

/ Since has only quarters and dimes, can pay 25
quarters and 3 dimes.

And since 2 quarters = 5 dimes:

q + d => 6.55
25  3
23  8
21 13
19 18
etc.

There is a missing piece of information in this word problem.  We need to know the total number of coins Clara has before we can solve it.

You should determine the number of coins needed to pay 655 c.
Oh, I see that now.  Glad you could answer it!  :o)
Actually, the number of coins is not necessary.  If we get the number of quarters time 25 ending in 5, all we need to do is add 10 times a number of dimes.

1 quarter + 63 dimes, etc.  as Steve suggests.
