Sign's of belonging in To Kill A Mockingbird and Hairspray and how Hairspray refers back to To Kill A Mockingbird

Hi, So right now my class is doing a speech of "belonging" on "To Kill A Mockingbird" which we must write a short essay first about belonging. We must also use a related text to refer to.
My related text i've chosen is "Hairspray" as it shows many similarities and refers to belonging. Can anyone tell me ways Hairspray refers to To Kill A Mockingbird!
This will then be made into a speech! Thanks heaps.
