I thought it would be $30 in February and $10 in January, is this correct?

Let x be the amount saved in the January.

x(3/4)^2 = 45

x = $80 <==Answer

Attn: Each month Ben saved less than the previous month he did. In Februray, he saved 80(3/4) = $60, and in March he saved 60(3/4) = $45.
