Elesa,
From a text book point of view, that answer varies from place to place. Generally speaking, more people will answer the call of Christ in areas with high numbers of oppressed or suffering people. Sometimes it has been practically forced on people by missionaries who were more technologically advanced than the indigenous people. But more directly, 1 Corinthians, 1:18 tells us, "For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."

Christianity integrated most fully into regions where European colonial powers ruled, where there was an overwhelming European presence, where the established society had been defeated and disrupted, and where no literate world religion was already established.08/29/19
