Two angles are complementary if their sum is 90. If the measure of one angle is 6 less than twice the measure of the other angle, find the measure of the two angles

Hi Dawn;

x=smaller angle

y=larger angle

y=2x-6

90=(x)+(2x-6)

Let's combine like terms...

90=3x-6

Let's add 6 to both sides...

90+6=3x-6+6

96=3x

Let's divide both sides by 3...

96/3=(3x)/3

32=x

y=2x-6

y=[2(32)]-6

y=64-6

y=58

Let's check our work...

Does...

32+58=90
