An excellent tutor must be clear, concise and patient.

Ahmad and Barry together collected 1/6 + 1/2 of the shells. Adding those fractions together, we find that they collected 4/6, simplified as 2/3 of the total number of shells.

This means that Tara collected 1/3 of the shells. Knowing this, and combining it with the fact that she collected 76 shells, we can setup an equation to find the total number of shells.

Total = 76 * 3 = 228

Since you know that Tara collection 1/3 of the total number of shells, you need to determine what number 76 is 1/3 of.

The equation can be setup like this

Total / 3 = 76

Total = 76 * 3

Total = 228
