What I have so far:

1/3 (y-7.50 x2) = 40

1/3 (y-15)= 40

I am not sure of the next step,

y-15 =40= y-5 = 13.33

3 3

Or

1/3(y-15 +15)=40 + 15

1/3(y) = 55

Any help would be appreciated :))

I agree

1/3(y -15) = 40

1/3y - 15/3 = 40 be careful of the sign !!!

1/3y -5 = 40

1/3y = 40 + 5

1/3y = 45

y = 45 x 3

y = 135

Hi Pj,

1/3(y-7.50x2)=40

1/3(y-15)=40. This step is correct, simplify within the parentheses.

your next step is not correct because EVERYTHING on the left side of the equation is multiplied by 1/3 and you just multiplied 15 by 1/3, so.....

y-15 =120. Makes it whole numbers and easier to solve

y-15 **+15** = 120 **+15**. Perform the opposite operation to the whole number to isolate the variable

y = 135. Simplify and you get your solution
