Separate the x and y portions of the problem. If the bullet is fired horizontally, is there any initial velocity in the y direction? How long does it take for an object to fall from 1.7 meters? Once you have this time, you can find out how far the bullet goes in the horizontal direction using the definition of velocity: v= delta(x) / time.
