If the salary of x is 25% less than the salary of y and y receives 25% more than 150. Then what is the value of x?

y = 150 + (.25 * 150)

y = 150 + 37.5

y = 187.50

therefore:

x = .75 * y

x = .75 * 187.50

x = 140.625

so the salary is either $140.63 or, more likely a truncated 140.62.  Businesses usually will not round up.
