Identify the solution(s) of the system of equations 6x+4y=2 and y=5-3x

Plug in y = 5-3x into the first equation,

6x+4(5-3x) = 2

Solve for x,

x = (20-2)/6 = 3

y = 5-3x = 5-9 = -4

Answer: (3, -4)

Hey Debra -- as another angle, it's often a helpful relief to "cut in half" ... 3x+2y=1 ... since 3x=5-y, then 5-y+2y= 5+y =1 ... leaving y= -4 and 3x=9 or x=3 ... Best wishes, ma'am :)
