do solutions to systems of linear inequalities need to satisy both inequalities

Just trying to understand the basic facts about linear inequalities and how the system of linear inequalities work.  Can they have many solution sets or just one solution? Do the system of linear inequalities need to satisfy both inequalities?  Is there a case when they may not? Can you show me an example of a case when they may not?
