CHICAGO, Illinois – November 3, 2015 – WyzAnt, the leading online marketplace for private tutors, today announced their 6th annual scholarship contest, which awards $10,000 to the first place winner, $3,000 to the runner up and $2,000 to the second runner up.
“A college education is increasingly important, and yet, it’s more difficult to attain for today’s students than ever before,” says Andrew Geant, CEO and co-founder of WyzAnt. “Competition and cost continue to rise each year. With more than 85,000 highly rated tutors covering over 200 subjects -- including test prep -- we help students of all ages succeed academically. Our annual scholarship contest is one of the ways we help students with the cost.”
According to a recent report published in the New York Times, the average student graduates with $23,000 in debt. With $10,000, the winner of the WyzAnt scholarship will essentially be able to cut that debt in half. To date, WyzAnt has awarded $70,000 to students to help out with the cost of college.
To enter the WyzAnt Scholarship Contest, applicants will be asked to complete an essay 150-300 words in length in response to the following prompt: “Describe in 300 words or less a person who has inspired you. Explain how he or she helped to inspire and positively influence and motivate you.”
Applicants must create an account and publish their essay before May 1, 2016. Students who are attending, or plan on attending a 2 or 4 year college in the United States within the next two years are eligible to enter. Full list of official rules here.
