About Max

A Colorado-native, I attended Colorado College and majored in philosophy. After college, I worked briefly for Senator Michael Bennett (CO) before joining Teach For America in 2010. For my first two years of teaching, I taught high school science (astronomy, earth science, biology) before moving to New York City to help start a charter school in Harlem. In NYC I taught science and history for three more years and served as the grade level leader. I also earned my M.Ed and my New York State Teaching Certificate (MS Generalist). I took the last year off and biked from Portland, OR to the tip of Baja and then sailed down the Mexican coast. Now, I am in Jackson while I apply for PhD programs and enjoy the skiing. I am passionate educator with a broad range of interests and deep curiosity. I am particularly fascinated by Big History, political science, and philosophy of science.

I am passionately curious about the natural world and love nothing more than to explain things to people. I have created curriculum and taught students aged 10-adult science classes ranging from astronomy to earth science to biology.

I have worked on the Hill in DC and am a voracious reader of political science and current events. I am well-versed in political philosophy and have taught US history to eighth graders.

I am available for test-prep (I'm preparing for the GRE myself), MS and HS tutoring in any science or history subjects. I also can teach writing and help with college applications and college prep. Happy to work with struggling students and with those looking to get ahead. Regular and longer-term arrangements preferred.
