My name is Brandon and I am a first year graduate student studying Applied Mathematics at West Virginia University with a teaching assistant position for college mathematics courses. Eventually I will pursue a PhD in Mathematics Education in hopes to work at the University level as a college professor. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Maine. There I worked as a Maine Learning Assistant in both introductory calculus and physics courses on campus where I aided in facilitating classrooms alongside the professor and hosted my own office hours to provide additional help for students. I was also hired as a tutor on campus by the University and by individual students. What I love about tutoring is that every student has a different style of learning, and I am willing to be patient and adapt my instructional style and utilize my flexible schedule to meet the needs of my students.

I currently conduct education research in order to improve math instruction in college courses. My specific focus is differential equations but I have done extensive research in many areas of mathematics on effective teaching styles and learning strategies to implement in one-one and group settings. My true interest in tutoring and teaching is not only helping students get a great grade, but to also enhance their overall understanding of the concepts and provide them with life-long strategies for learning and studying.

I am qualified to tutor any math content from elementary school up to and including undergraduate calculus. This includes but is not limited to Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus. Additionally, I may have materials for a given subject besides what is already provided by the student's instructor. As you'll find in my qualifications, I have tutored all types of math for many years. I specifically build a curriculum that is adaptable to a student's individual needs. Every student comes from a variety of backgrounds, even beyond just their education and this requires that a tutor can work outside a strict regiment of examples and instructional material. Every student is unique and will require a different approach in which my curriculum and subject materials is designed to achieve.

Elementary Math

Elementary math in particular is the first time students are really introduced to math besides knowing how old they are and counting apples and oranges. There are many ways elementary math can be instructed, and therefore every individual student will have their own learning style. I have tutored students in elementary math since I was in middle school, so for almost 10 years. Over time I have worked to develop an adaptable curriculum in order to best improve student learning and understanding through my tutoring lessons on this subject material. Elementary math is anything but elementary for a student seeing it for the first time, and I am here to help make that transition easier.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I am qualified to teach/tutor elementary math up to and including undergraduate calculus courses. Algebra 1 is the next step from elementary math, and can be very challenging for students. I have tutored Algebra 1 multiple times, and find that every student approaches the material differently. I have worked to develop an adaptable curriculum in order to best improve student learning and understanding through my tutoring lessons. Algebra 1 is generally the first time students go from learning math in terms of just numbers to suddenly including letters or variables. This shift in content is a common struggle, but I know I can make the transition easier for students based on their specific needs given the time in my lesson plans.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is the next step from Algebra 1, and can present new challenges for students. I have tutored Algebra 2 many times, and find that every student approaches the material differently primarily based on how they were taught Algebra 1. I have worked to develop an adaptable curriculum in order to best improve student learning and understanding through my tutoring lessons on this subject material. Many students come from a variety of backgrounds, and it's important to me that I can meet your specific needs.
Calculus,

Calculus

I am qualified to teach/tutor elementary math up to and including undergraduate calculus courses. I currently am a learning assistant for college level calculus courses where I facilitate group learning, teach specific course content, and hold my own office hours.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I am qualified to teach/tutor elementary math up to and including undergraduate calculus courses. Precalculus is one of the most difficult transitions for students within a math curriculum. Many of the new concepts in precalculus are truly foreign to students and this is the stage they begin to wonder if they'll ever use this math in their life. Not everybody will need to know the ins and outs of precalculus all their lives, others will need it for their future careers. I have worked to develop an adaptable curriculum in order to best improve student learning and understanding through my tutoring lessons on this subject material. My curriculum is designed for both for students who need to go beyond precalculus and for those looking to simply do well in the course. Math is not easy, and it is important that students get the help they deserve. My curriculum is designed to make math a little more entertaining while focusing on the subject matter to best succeed in the class.

Knowledgeable and Patient tutor

We got lucky when we found Brandon! This is the third college math class Brandon is helping my daughter through. He is very smart, but breaks it down so that she can understand. Wonderful!

Best Math Tutor

Brandon has been tutoring math to my two boys 8 and 12 and I must say that he is the best and most patient tutor that I have seen. My boys absolutely love learning from Brandon. I would strongly recommend Brandon for any math help.

Knowledgeable and helpful tutor

Listened to and connected with my daughter. She is no longer confused about the precalculus topic they covered. We were hesitant about online tutoring but everything turned out great.

Great, Knowledgeable and Patient

Brandon tutored my daughter in algebra 2, to prepare for this week's midterm. She is so much more confident and is so happy she has understanding. He is my tutor for the next semester math to keep her on point with math and have a confidence going through the course. Knowledge is power and confidence is its fuel. Thank you, Brandon.
