I am a multi categorical, K-12 certified special education teacher with 19 years experience in WV/MD. I am passionate about teaching and foster a positively enriched learning experience for my students. When I am not teaching I am Grammy to my seven month old granddaughter, Hanna. I love my dogs and collect unique jewelry.

I am certified in the state of West Virginia in Elementary Education, grades one to six and early childhood pre-k. I have nineteen years teaching experience combining elementary education and special education in West Virginia and Maryland public schools. I am knowledgeable at researching and developing lessons that teach the common core standards as outlined by the West Virginia Department of Education in multiple subjects k-6 and social studies k-12.

Handwriting

I prefer to teach D'Nealian transitional handwriting. With the slight slant and curves utilized in D'Nealian, transitioning to cursive writing becomes much easier and much less frustrating. There are often computer fonts available for download the utilize this transitional print as well.

I have been trained to use the Wilson Reading Program which is a scripted, scheduled program that incorporates reading instruction with sound/symbol connections and finally dictation. These types of reading programs work well with students with special needs.

I assist students with modifications and accommodations according to their IEP as well. I foster a positive learning environment to assist each student in gaining self confidence and building self esteem. I am certified in the State of West Virginia to work with students with special needs in Mental Retardation, Learning Disabilities, and Behavior Disorders. My state certificate covers students from kindergarten to adult. I have 18 out of 19 years teaching experience working with students with special needs in West Virginia and Maryland.
