I was a teacher in Sacramento, California for 2 years before I moved to the East Coast. I taught an all-subject 1st grade class for two years. We focused on reading and math. I believe in teaching phonics and sight word skills to K-2 learners.
After I moved to the East Coast, I taught 3rd grade in the District of Columbia school district for 2 years. After two years in DCPS I applied for a position with a D.C. Charter School where I taught 6th grade for 2 years. After two years of 6th graders I decided to go back to the little ones, 2nd grade and taught for another 2 years.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
