Marshall University Huntington, WV (Graduate Coursework)
I am a college graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences, in addition to about 45 semester hours of work in Chinese Mandarin language and area/cultural studies. In addition, I have completed most of the Post Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Program, including all in-class coursework required to become certified as a regular teacher of secondary students. During my time as an undergraduate, I regularly tutored other students in my spare time, and I have been both a professional trainer and teacher in the years since.
For me, the best part of tutoring and teaching is to help someone else to achieve, and the satisfaction and reward they receive when they accomplish their goals. I have tutored students seeking their G.E.D.s to the point of completion, and there are few things more rewarding than having a student go on to better their own career as a result of the help I gave them.
My primary area of expertise is in biological sciences, specifically biology, evolution, phylogenetics and paleontology.
I studied Chinese Mandarin at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA. I have a variety of materials and expertise with the language to teach a first-year or introductory student from scratch.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied Chinese Mandarin via the Chinese Basic Course at Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, California from April 1999-October 2000. In total, the coursework was worth more than 40 semester hours in foreign language and cultural studies credits, primarily language. The coursework consisted of 63 weeks of eight-hour days of total immersion language training in a military setting by native speakers.
I have taught a 9th grade Physical Science course as a student teacher. I have a full curriculum for that ready to be adapted to a Middle School level.
