Ashland Community and Technical College (Business Admin Acct)
Hello! My name is Maria and want to tell you a little about myself. I am a Mother and Grandmother who was raised right here in Huntington WV. My education has been from both local colleges and life long business experiences. I love to help students develop skills and enhance their education. In today's school systems, there are so many requirements placed upon students that they don't have time or classes to teach general life requirements like writing checks, balancing a check book, making a budget, learning about credit, and personal accounting. In addition to personal business skills listed previously, I also am skilled in tutoring elementary basic math skills, vocabulary, and spelling.
Computer skills are something else that I offer tutoring. Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Powerpoint. I am also highly experienced in public speaking and love to help others conquer their fear of public speaking. My tutoring approach is a little different. I like to make learning fun and enjoyable. It shouldn't be something to fear or dread. Life is a long journey of learning daily no matter your age or how you were raised. Never stop learning is one of my mottos and I love to share my love of learning by tutoring all ages.
My tutoring approach is to make learning fun. I like to teach by comparing real life comparisons to each lesson to make it not only more enjoyable, but something you can relate to to make it easier to understand. If you just sit and read a text book it is hard to comprehend sometimes as it doesn't explain things in an easy to understand real life lesson. For example, you may have a lesson in math regarding percentages. There is one thing in life that is used more often that you can relate percentages to on an understandable level and that is tipping for good service. I would have a lesson that depending on the students educational level would be geared around tipping that not only would teach percentages, but would also explain the reasons and how to determine the amount of tipping a server or service provider. This is just one small example of my way of making learning fun and relative to real life situations. Making learning fun will expand your mind and make you think without even realizing you are learning. Hello! My name is Maria and want to tell you a little about myself. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
