I only had my AA when I taught my first class of six kindergartners in 1981. It was so much fun, and they all learned to read! I was hooked! I went on to get my BA in education. I continued homeschooling my daughters through high school. They went on to obtain advanced degrees, and so did I. After teaching for several years in private schools, I completed my MAT at the age of 52 in 2011 and became certified/licensed to teach in West Virginia in special education, K-adult. I recently decided to retire, but would love to continue teaching one-on-one as doors open.
Math is intriguing because there are no gray areas! There may be many ways to reach the conclusion, but there is always only one correct answer. I love teaching math because children learn in different ways, and it's fun to use manipulatives and try the different avenues of reaching the answer until one way finally clicks and the light bulb comes on! I have experimented with many different teaching methods and I own a lot of manipultatives. I welcome the opportunity to help a child get excited because they've figured out how to solve problems.

I've had the privilege of teaching many children how to read, from age three to late elementary school. I have invested in my own personal library of over 1,000 books, so I can provide children with books on their level and that suit their interests. I also enjoy teaching writing.
