I currently tutor high school and college students in the Spring, Texas area in language arts subjects (including all levels of reading, writing and vocabulary), history (from ancient to modern American), biology and human anatomy, along with a myriad of other "liberal arts" subjects.
In addition study skills are of primary importance to me. Is the student organized. How does the student keep track of his or her assignments? How does the student take notes? Is the student focused in class or easily distracted. Is there a comprehension problem? All of these questions must be answered before tutoring can be successful.
How did I become a tutor? After 15 years of teaching my own daughter and others' children in home schools, tutoring was the obvious next step. My daughter is an honors student just about to go on to grad school. Other students I have taught have gone on to attend Bryn Mawr, Bard, Sam Houston U, UNT, UH, Washington U and more.
In addition to tutoring school students, I genuinely enjoy homeschooling students whose parents have chosen that path for them.
The measure of my success is the success of my students. If my students learn, then I am doing my job and can relax knowing that I am doing what I am supposed to be doing in this world. I currently tutor high school and college students in the Spring, Texas area in language arts subjects (including all levels of reading, writing and vocabulary), history (from ancient to modern American), biology and human anatomy, along with a myriad of other "liberal arts" subjects.

The history of the Americas including the lives of indigenous people who lived here before the arrival of Europeans, the theories of European discovery before the arrival of Columbus and the social, economic and political developments in the Americas from 1492 to the present day.
I have worked at various private schools in the Houston area including The Redd School, Pines Montessori School and The Bridlewood School. I also homeschooled my own daughter and other children from 1st through 12th grade. I continue to tutor privately in Spring, Texas primarily teaching students of the Klein ISD and am listed in the KISD schools' tutor referral registry.
I have a BA in English Literature and have been tutoring in this subject through the college level for over 15 years. A comprehensive study of literature includes great literary works written throughout the ages both in English and in translation from other languages. This study covers not only the superficial understanding of fiction, non-fiction, plays, and poems, but also the deeper meanings written into these works by the authors.
I already incorporate study skills into all of my tutoring activities. The most common problem with the average failing student is a lack of study skills, fuzzy focus and disorganized goals. I supply every student with a blank calendar and teach them to use it as well as require that they have a binder to keep it in along with a small notebook to make detailed notes about assignments. I believe it is important to make school an integral part of a student's whole life and to bring the knowledge the student obtains daily into the study experience. I also discuss test-taking, how tests are designed and how this knowledge will help them succeed, particularly when taking standardized tests. The final aspect of study skills that is already a part of my tutoring is teaching body language as it pertains to teachers and how paying attention to not only what their teacher says but how (s)he says it and his/her body language will help make school easier and more enjoyable.
I have appeared in over 30 non-professional theatre productions including plays by Ionesco, Shakespeare, Ibsen and Miller. I have appeared in 2 professional plays by Ionesco and Shakespeare as well as a number of commercial shoots. I studied acting and singing at HB Studios in New York City. I studied opera privately for three years with the great teacher and late Metropolitan Opera soprano, Dr. Margaret Kalil, who has a scholarship named after her. I have supervised the theatre club at The Redd School (Spring, TX) and Bridlewood School (Conroe, TX) as well as an independent high school performing arts group, Spring Performing Arts, who appeared at The Olde Towne Spring festival known as Home for the Holidays, performed for senior citizen and girl scout groups, and more.
